It was the big church sale yesterday!
We were a bit slow getting out.
We were thinking of not going but we went anyways.
Maybe we should have thought deeper and not have gone.
The Hubster got stopped by a motorcycle police for what may or may not have been a full stop.
Evidently, there are many new stop signs in town now since they have put up new buildings (looks more city like than country like). He was let go with no warning or citation.
After we parked, we were walking toward the sale when I stepped on a crack and down (very fast) I went, right on my face.
What a mess! Bloody nose, scraps, scratches, bruises. I had to lie on the front lawn of a fraternity house while waiting for my nose to stop bleeding.
We went to the sale anyways and spent $4.00. then went home.
I am recovering, it could have been worse, broken nose, bones or lost teeth.

Yard-Sailing
We have not done much Yard Sailing this year as I am trying to clean out myself.
We went to a few.
One moving sale we got a couple of air conditioners for the dogs which they appreciate very much.
Stopped off at a few today and picked up a Wilton loaf pan and some computer stuff.
Next week is the big church yard sales in the next town which we will go to.
I don't expect we will be getting much, just the stuff we are looking for on our list.
MIL will be having her yard sale event in a few weeks, she has a good location so maybe we might pack up the car and go sell some treasures of the past and make a few dollars for our "retirement fund".

Yard Sailing
We went to the big yard sale over at the church near UNH.
Not too much stuff. Prices were high so I felt bad for the poor college students.
Found some bits and bobs for my son's Halloween costume so that is the next project to complete.
Overall, we have not been going to too many this year, we have just been very busy with other things.

Yard Sailing 2011
Well, we have only gone out a few times and spent an average of $5. per week. That is pretty good, after all, we are trying to downsize ourselves.
One week we went to the neighborhood a few streets over and I spent $10. in clothing just for my dd who is will be going to university in Ireland. We told her that maybe inexpensive quality clothing may be best for her in case her luggage gets lost or stolen, or even her clothing! We got some nice sweaters, tees, and a wonderful pair of pjs.
Another week, I got paper, and calligraphy ink (set), and a FREE messy doll house that need lots of work, which was taken care of that afternoon.
dh got some kind of auto nailer tool which wiped out the yard sale budget for a few weeks, so no sailing for us during that time.
Today, we got a bunch of junky little diorama stuff, a notebook, and a nice set of quality playing darts MIB.
We will visit dd in Ireland and dh wants to bring along his darts for all those pub competitions we use to do over there long ago.

Yard Sailing
For the past month, we have not gone to any yard sales. We have been too busy and sales have dwindled due to most people in this area on vacation.
Last weekend I did sell a few things off Craigslist so I was rich, until we finally got the new TV (Vizio flat screen 37 inch/1080p full HD on sale at Target for $469.) The Sony Bravia went up $50 at Best Buy so we settled for the Vizio, which Ellen gives away frequently on her show. Trade off there.
On Friday's weather report it was uncertain if Hurricane Earl would swing on by.
Light sprinkles overnight, but lots of wind with the sun shining and 80 degrees. In this case, most people who planned sales, would likely cancel and not organize the night before. So we just decided to stay home and I am blogging.
Next weekend are the huge sales in the next town so I guess, we can spend a little money then. I have my list ready. It is a short list indeed!

We were travelling to a used bookstore when we passed a sign that read:

Lost but not Forgotten
Well Yard Sale season has started.
We went to one fund raiser sale, and two neighborhood sales.
This past weekend we got a few things, mostly parts, a few books, Christmas cards, all priced 25 cents - 50 cents. Talked to many nice people.
When we got to this cul de sac neighborhood sale, there were plenty of people.
When we went back to our car, I noticed something on the ground by our door.
I thought it was some underwear?? but it turned out to be a bra upon closer examination.
It was windy so either it blew off someone's table or clothesline.
We left it there, drove away and from a distance, we still saw it laying on the ground.
I hope the owner found it.

Thrift Shop Finds
We had Thanksgiving at home and then on Friday we went on up north to eat lunch with my Dad and two of my brothers and my superduper SIL.
I told the children we were going to stop off at my favorite thrift store down the street before we even left after we ate dinner. They groaned but we know what we are looking for so we don't waste time. We found a pair of new boots for my son and told my daughter there were plenty of skates there if she wanted a new pair since her feet grew which she declined. I got a little folksy Santa and an Avon small ceramic candle holder Christmas tree and a couple of trinket type dogs all for a few dollars. My husband found some scenery stuff for his trains.
Then on the way home, we stopped off at another shop we have never been to.
It was small, crowded and disorganized but the prices were so ridiculously low. I found two more polka dotted glasses for 50 cents -- which I had been looking for, a bag of doll clothing for a dollar that had two Penny Brite dresses in it! (I thought it was only one.)
My son found a box which he thought was games but it turned out to be a used complete Game Cube with three games for a reasonable amount of money. He immediately went out to the car to tell his sister, she ran into the store, they were thrilled beyond belief.
My Dad just gave them some money so they spent it all and asked for a few more dollars to complete the deal. Typically, they save their money but they wanted one of these anyways.
(They still use the PlayStation I we got at a yardsale along with the collection of yardsale games we found over time.)
I told them never to complain about going to the Thrift/Consignment shops ever again when they got a deal like that.
They spent Saturday and Sunday laughing while playing Mario Cart or Animal Crossing.

Yard Sailing
It rained last night but this am -- to my surprise -- it looked dry out, with a few damp spots.
The sun was peeking out under the gray clouds. The weather report was that there would be some AM sun and clouds and afternoon rain and showers.
Today the big annual fundraising yard sales near UNH happen. Very exciting.
We go every year.
So we hop in the car and take off and go to our favorite sale site first.
My husband drops us off, and parks the car a mile away.
That is to prevent us from buying heavy things we must carry that distance.
We get there and it is all organized so differently and the prices were so HIGH!
Higher than usual and I felt, overpriced although all money goes back into the community.
I felt bad for the more unfortunate people who had to deal with these prices.
I go to the toy section to find diorama stuff but because it is so organized, most of the stuff is in lots with big price tags. I manage to find three small items for $1.75.
My children ran to electronics and came back with a report that they saw two PlayStation 1 games they would like. Yes, we have never updated but everyone is still happy with the orignal $15.00 lot we got years ago. I give them money and they run away, but not for good.
Meanwhile I see my husband in the distance has bought himself a pair of ice skates. HMMMM.
I ask myself "Why?" since he has not skated in years. I am not too sure he could stand up in them.
The kids come back. The games cost a total of $2 -- bargains.
We go look at clothing for our winning Halloween costumes.
My son starts to complain as it starts to rain. That is his job to complain.
We find a few things -- my daughter got a new Nine West leather wallet for pennies, hardly used and a few "found" mementos inside that made us laugh.
Time for a donut break.
At this point I realize I am carrying around the clothing on the hangers. So I go back in the building to return the hangers and bag the clothing. When I come out, where are the other three family members?
This is like a bad dream/nightmare. We did not bring the cell phones.
I imagine taking the bus home without them, such a pipe dream.
So I go wait in a conspicuous place and find a few more Halloween things at another table.
Still no sign of them.
It is starting to rain lightly.
Finally after 30 minutes, I spy them. They said they looked for me in the Books but I never made it in there, too hot and crowded. My husband found a TKD sports bag for my son -- great, something we actually needed on our list however, he puts his new skates in the bag. A bad sign.
We call it quits after an hour due to the rain, walk back to the car, and it is now raining a bit harder.
As we drive home, it is pouring buckets out.
Great timing and the kids played the games. Rainy day entertainment fun.

Hot, Humid
. . . and very sticky for the last week!
We lost power twice for several hours in the last 24 hours due to these lingering thunder storms.
At least I was not bidding on eBay! I would not have won.
Creepy weather.
But at least, I went yardsailing this am when the sun was out for a while and got a few good things. Only spent 2.50 today - two pink leather pocketbooks (one says "Prada" but I think it is a knockoff), and some little junky stuff, like LEGO keychains for the kids and some small stuff for my doll dioramas.
School starts next week. Hard to believe!

Yard Sailing
We went to two neighborhoods and a fund raiser.
The fundraiser had so much rusty junk it was pitiful but I hope they raised the funds they needed.
There I found new Prang Watercolors (THE BEST!), and a little thatched cottage tea pot with sugar and creamer (made in Japan), just like my Mom use to have.
Again, two more books, one Fast Food Nation and another about Cows (for a friend).
My daughter got a clip on hard cell phone holder.
My son got a crazy pair of glasses with 2006, and the 00 are lenses for the eyes. He also got a crazy chicken puppet to go with his "Old Mr. Jenkins" act since he tells a bunch of chicken jokes.
I don't know how he is going to do the chicken puppet and hold onto his cane.
Then three articles of new clothing with tags, a basic white Gap shirt (daughter), a Gap polo (husband) and a little summer shift for me to keep me cooler than I already am. LOL
Interesting things we saw but did not buy:
1. Reseeding pansies -- not for sale but the lady had quite a patch of them. They looked so perfect.
2. Wrought Iron Fish tank stand -- it was $5.00 and had potential -- add a top with some of those meshed tiles you can get at Home Depot to create a deck table or grill counter top.
3. My husband passed on the lifetime supply of copper wire for $20. (thank god he did!)
4. Old railroad lantern made into a swag light for $100. -- not a yardsale price.
5. Overpriced art supplies -- geesh! used and priced nearly the orignal prices.
6. Stacking lawn loungers out of PVC but they looked like they took up too much storage space.
7. Someone got the doll house kit before I saw it (when they were paying). I asked my husband if he saw it and he said yes and I asked him WHY he did not tell me! yeah, too busy looking at the rusty junk and cooper wire. Then we passed a table with the "Whose in the Dog House" sign and you put their name on the bones and hang it in the house, should have written his name on one of the bones.

Blog Parties, Field Trips and Yard Sailing
I think I am a weekend blogger here now.
Somewhat disappointing that things are not getting fixed (at Shoutpost, original site of this post).
Last week I did the MommyFest blog party and hopping. It was ok. Sad that so many people who participated did not have intro posts or did not have their blog opened to accept comments. More than half I visited that was the case. Then only a few came to my blog. The Ultimate Blog Party seemed to be better but we all learn a few things in the process.
Yesterday my son had a "MacGyver" field trip at the YMCA camp. He LOVES MacGyver, even wanted the same Mullet haircut but I said no. They did everything -- kyacking, a rope course where he said everyone got confused, archery (he said he did pretty bad), and climbed a moving wall. He came home exhusted but said he had a great time.
Today we went to a few fund raising yardsales and of course, I found some books and paper (cards, notebooks). I also got an outside lounge chair for $2.00, something I wanted so I could get my 15 of sunshine per day. At one sale I saw two ice cube trays and told my husband that he could use those for his trains to put the small pieces in so he can see them. Good idea he thought and got them. You could use an egg carton for the same reason but the trays are sturdier. Some man gave us a free enormous shark kite because he did not have time to fix it. Then that was it.
Today I am suppose to be cleaning and organizing. My MIL is having a yardsale in a few weeks so I am getting some stuff together.
We are having a repeat Mother's Day tomorrow because my husband forgot to give me my presents and I was having a good time anyways, I did not even think about asking. LOL
Guess I am getting old and forgetful.
The children do not know this yet, so it is a real surprise for them with more ice cream.

Yard Sailing
Tis the Season - the Yard Sailors are out!
Today I just got a few cheap books and some "decorative apple gifts" for my neighbor who has the last name of an apple. She collects that kind of stuff and sad to say, I help her hoard it. I am an enabler to her addiction. So I will wrap it all up and give it to her for Mother's Day. I got 4 new and wrapped shaped apple candles (for her screened in porch), two wooden carved apple cores, two wooden apple salt and pepper shakers and a wooden apple welcome plaque. Total spent $4.00.
Bonus in one of the books I got, a crazy note -- evidently two very young girls (tell by the handwriting and language) were mad at one another and asking why?, I love you stuff.
We also saw some people we have not seen in a very long time, so that was nice to run into them and catch up.
My husband got a FREE stool for his train layout. Yes, the layout is getting bigger than I would like it to be. But not only that, half the cellar (14 x 30 feet) and the entire third floor are his trains. He has mostly Lionel O and HO trains. He spends hours with them, fixing, painting, rewiring. (Last week we got him a nice Yield House pine work table/desk with shelves ($25.)) We got a nice clamp on snake lamp for $1.50 for his new work area this week.
I have Z scale trains. LOL -- I found a very expensive German Marklin set at a yard sale (upscale/posh/tony neighborhood) and when I asked how much the man said $10.. I said OK without hesitation! So I have a very nice small running set. I could put it in a glass case coffee table. I fell over at the price of a new engine at a recent train show but I am happy with my little Z set I got a few years ago. Z scale is great for someone who lives in a small space or just wants to take them out and play once in a while. They are big on detail it is amazing.
I also got a few wooden boxes I am going to "alter".
Funny thing I saw:
An elaborate 1990's reproduction Victorian Memory book -- while flipping through the lavish ornate artistic pages, it seemed empty till I came to a page with a small picture of "Billy" who looked about 5 or 6 still stuck in the album.
Desperate Sale
A young boy, about 9 or 10, marked down his wooden desk to $1.00 from $2.00 while we were looking at it trying to convince us to buy it like he was doing an infomercial.
But the laugh of the day.
At one sale there was a craft box filled with various supplies. I got some scrap card stock and found a set of artist brushes still wrapped from the store. Brushes are good for crafting or trains. So I asked how much. The gal said well, those brushes were expensive, $20. originally so I guess for everything $2.00. I pointed out the price on the brushes says they were $2.99 and showed her the price then laughed. So she laughs then says OK a dollar for everything will be fine.
This is the third week we went out sailing, but we have our list of what we are looking for.
Seems lots of people are going because after heating oil, gas, electricity prices and taxes went up -- people are looking for more second hand stuff than ever before.
All the furniture (lots of top quality named stuff) we saw was marked sold before we got to any sale.

(Last week we got him a nice Yield House pine work table/desk with shelves ($25.)) We got a nice clamp on snake lamp for $1.50 for his new work area this week.
I have Z scale trains. LOL -- I found a very expensive German Marklin set at a yard sale (upscale/posh/tony neighborhood) and when I asked how much the man said $10.. I said OK without hesitation! So I have a very nice small running set. I could put it in a glass case coffee table. I fell over at the price of a new engine at a recent train show but I am happy with my little Z set I got a few years ago. Z scale is great for someone who lives in a small space or just wants to take them out and play once in a while. They are big on detail it is amazing.
I also got a few wooden boxes I am going to "alter".
Funny thing I saw:
An elaborate 1990's reproduction Victorian Memory book -- while flipping through the lavish ornate artistic pages, it seemed empty till I came to a page with a small picture of "Billy" who looked about 5 or 6 still stuck in the album.
Desperate Sale
A young boy, about 9 or 10, marked down his wooden desk to $1.00 from $2.00 while we were looking at it trying to convince us to buy it like he was doing an infomercial.
But the laugh of the day.
At one sale there was a craft box filled with various supplies. I got some scrap card stock and found a set of artist brushes still wrapped from the store. Brushes are good for crafting or trains. So I asked how much. The gal said well, those brushes were expensive, $20. originally so I guess for everything $2.00. I pointed out the price on the brushes says they were $2.99 and showed her the price then laughed. So she laughs then says OK a dollar for everything will be fine.
This is the third week we went out sailing, but we have our list of what we are looking for.
Seems lots of people are going because after heating oil, gas, electricity prices and taxes went up -- people are looking for more second hand stuff than ever before.
All the furniture (lots of top quality named stuff) we saw was marked sold before we got to any sale.

Weekend Whimsies
On Saturday it was overcast out and a tad drizzly so we went to a three yard sales in a neighborhood.
My son was happy to get more Play Station 1 games -- hey, he still has fun with them. Priced 3 for a dollar and we got 10.
We also ended up at the swanky and tony grocery store and found a few Christmas presents so our normal goal of having all the shopping and cards done by Columbus Day is nearing.
Good news, off Craigslist, we found a sofa replacement located in the next town, cheap.
We vacuumed it, let it air in the garage, and today ( exceptional weather!) we used The Green Machine on it. It was pretty clean to begin with but heck, nice to have it cleaned for our use.
I have to say that The Green Machine is a great little device. This is the second one we have had.
The first one was huge and bulky, the first one ever built I think. This second one is smaller and easier to use. I think we paid $60. for it compared to the expensive first one. Worth the price.
And both nights, we went for a walk and spied on the neighbors. LOL
One neighbor has gotten a new vehicle.
Two of our other neighbors have cut down many trees and this has changed the landscape of the neighborhood.
I feel bad for the birds.
But not the squirrels, they can move elsewhere.

Yard Sailing
Yep, it is that time of year.
I like to find books and good clothing, maybe an interesting toy for the kids (Got a GameBoy Advance for 25 cents in the quarter junk box last year.).
I also try to find some good craft stuff, but that is not always the case.
My husband likes tools, containers, and books.
Today was a bonanza day.
I got a brand new washer and dryer from a new house for $100. the set.
The wife needed a washer with a super gentle cycle for her fine washables so the ones that came with the house purchase, just had to go. (A neighbor had theirs out, beaten up and a few years old, for $350. for the set.)
The odd thing was I just mentioned the new washer and dryer to my husband a few days ago.
He said not a good idea (cost) but then when we saw this, it will do because it was hundreds less than one at the store.
Our neighborhood has a no outdoor clothesline clause in our deeds.
Yes, I could be arrested for violation. I am not sure exactly who enforces this though.
Guess my worries are over!

Magnetic Poetry
At three different yard sales over time, I got a plain silver me tal box with new Christmas cards (a dollar), a gift bag of magnetic poetry (larger font, a dollar), and an original box of magnetic poetry (small font, fifty cents). I put all the poetry into the silver metal box since I sent out all the Christmas cards. I went through the box taking out the suffixes then storing those in a empty film canister to find them easier amongst 800 pieces or so.
I wrote some sentences using the inside silver box cover as my slate.
I can keep my sentences there until next time or I can write sentences other people will find when they open the box to play!

National Piano Month
September is National Piano Month
I just thought I would share my piano with you.
It was a yardsale find.
I was in the right place at the right time. (Thank you Angels!)
It was a moving sale yardsale. I saw a pricey keyboard. I asked how much and the lady said $10.. The keyboard was an expensive model. I said I would take it but I was really dreaming of getting a piano.
She said they had one they were thinking of selling and told her daughter to take me into the house to see it.
I could not beleive it! It was exactly what I wanted, cherry with Queen Anne legs and a console. Happy Birthday to ME!
I asked the price and she said they needed to get a appraisal they would call me.
It is a Baldwin and they only had it for six years and paid $5000. for it new. The daughter did not like taking lessons.
This piano was made by the original Baldwin company long before Gibson Guitar bought them out.
A l-o-n-g month later, they called with a very low price of a few hundred dollars since they just needed to get rid of it.
Meanwhile, I did all the research with the serial number and the market price. This was a super deal! I had been on a used piano list for a while with no results for what I wanted.
A few days later, it was delivered (another story in itself). The lady also included ALL of the sheet music and books they had. WOW! I was playing for days.
I have playing spurts. (That sounds like a disease!)
A piano comes in handy when we lose power. You don't need the electricity to operate it and if you know your keyboard, you can play for hours in the dark till the electricity comes back on and things are back to normal. It is fun.
I tend to play more around Christmas time.
I use the keyboard when I feel like playing some rock and roll. LOL
I bet that girl now regrets not taking lessons, if not at this time, when she is older.
However, her lack of interest turned into a great find for me and a great birthday gift especially during National Piano Month!
