Pirates of the Caribbean

Capt. Jack Sparrow is back and is savvy as ever!

This AM (7/6/06) on Regis and Kelly, Orlando Bloom was the guest.

He said that in the last movie, he was running around in little shoes and funny socks and in this movie he got some real pirate boots and a leather jacket. He was thrilled.

Orlando says his character tries to rescue his Dad from the murky waters of the deep. Now he says with a bit of background, his character of Will has more dimension. He is happy with that.

Orlando says Jack makes a great entrance and how will they top that in the next movie?

I also saw that the actor who plays Davey Jones was sadden by the fact he did not get to have a pirate costume and run around with all the other actors on the set and have some "fun". He had sensors on him and in front of the green screen then was computer animated, just like Golem in LOTR.

Keira Knightly on another interview show said she begged the writers to allow her character to kiss Jack. She was pretty excited her dream came true.

Orlando said that they filmed for 9 months in the Caribbean and they are finishing up the Pirates 3 which will be out next summer. He said that they had to be evacuated from the set a few times due to Hurricane Rita.

Johnny Depp based the movements of Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Keith has recovered from falling out of a tree while on an exotic vacation. He has signed on to play Captain Jack's father in the next film. Sounds great and funny!

I was disappointed that Johnny Depp did not win an Oscar for his first performance as Jack. He says that does not matter, he likes to be in quality productions and portray unique characters. He has said not living in Hollywood helps him focus more on his work when he is on a set. Just go do a job and be done with it. He has had an interesting career but I think this is what he will be remembered for.

Johnny has said that he would like to put Jack to rest after the third movie but who knows what will happen, he has created a great character and to think Disney was extremely leary about his portrayal in the first place. Johnny's insights to Jack proved to be correct and Disney should be happy with the excessive profits they have made so far and into the future.

Stay tuned and enjoy the show!

Starts Friday July 7th USA. Some theatres are showing the film at midnight so check your listings. The movie runs 2 1/2 hours.
